I started a paint-by-numbers, & I think it's gone all wrong. A little advice please?
I started doing this large and very detailed paint-by-number painting recently. Its of a mountain side, plateau, & 5 horses running. At first it was going well, but as I progressed, I noticed that some of the colors look wrong from the example. The mixtures that they ask you to make dont end up looking like they are supposed to. I'm almost done, I've left the horses for last & I'm affraid that its not going to come out looking very well. It looks awfully abstract and not natural like its supposed to. Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix it? Is there a way I can blend the acrylic paint or go in and re-paint certain things? A little help would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to make this picture for my mom and I'm worried its coming out looking bad.

To blend acrylic paint you just thin it with a little water. Say you're doing a red ball that's a little pink in the light. You can put down the general color it is, red, then you mix up the shade of pink that you need and just put it down and blend towards the red. If you mix too slowly and the red dries before you can blend the pink into it, then you mix a little water into the pink so it thins it out and you can sort of see the red through the pink when you paint it down. Dry the brush off so it's only a tiny bit damp and blend the paint you've put down. It'll break up the dry paint that's down so it blends.

If it is acrylic paint you can paint over it. Try blending one number into the other, like 2 shades of brown blend it slightly on one side in order to show the shadows. I paint in acrylic on canvas all the time and blending is very important, if you don't blend on the board it will look like a paint by number. Remember acrylic drys very quickly so have a spray bottle handy[ and a soft cloth in case you really mess up] keep your paint damp if you are going to blend them. Hope this helps, I know I went through many trials and tribulations before I figured it out.
