it depends on if you are going off a relay or flat start. either way, the block is faster than the side of the pool. for a flat start the one most people do is a track start, which is one foot forward and one foot back. this dive is the best combination of fast reaction time and power. as for the swimming part, the best way to go fast is to have a straight arm catch, which means that you dont bend your elbows underwater. think of your arm as an anchor and rotate your body around your arm. use the water to move, dont move the water. last tip. since its only a 25, try to limit your breathing to once, because when a lot of people breath, they break their body line, which creates drag and slows them down.

What you need to do for a block dive is pull back far on the block when you're getting ready and maybe have someone tell you when to go and make sure to do as many dolphin kicks underwater that you can because that will help you and make sure to not worry about your form and don't think about what you're doing just go out there and swim like there's something you desperately want on the other side and pump your arms really fast, also do small fast kicks and don't slow down your kick when you breathe also make sure that your goggles are under your cap because then they can't fall off during the race

it is best to go from the block but make sure you know how to do a dive from the block. if you are not comfortable enough with that do wat ever is comfortable for you. when you start your race you need to make sure you stay in streamline and kick underwater before reaching the surface. if you know how to do dolphin kicks like for butterfly those are the fastest as soon as you reach the surface start your stroke it is important not the breathe the first stroke because off of the start is the fastest part of your race if you breath that first stroke it is like you are hitting a brick wall and stopping all that momentum you get off of the start. make sure you keep up a steady kick for the whole 25 do not let your feet drag or that will slow you down. only breathe when you feel it is absolutely necessary because breathing also slows you down. when you do breathe make sure you take a quick breath so that you will not stop your motion. finally make sure you are racing the people around you in the other lanes. i have found that for me having others around me pushes me harder and makes me go faster keep it in your mind that this is your race and that you want to get your hand on that wall before everyone else in you race.

if its a 25 then my first tip would be dont breathe.

dive as far out as possible, and cont to three before coming up.

keep your head down, and if your stroke is powerful enough you can lift your front out of the water without sinking your back end in like a hydrofoil.
