car starts then stops?

I've been trying to get my 98 mustang to start up. I dont know what i did up it started, drove around for a few minutes then i parked. When i went back to start it again after ten minutes it wont go. This time it nearly starts, but then shakes dead with a nasty screeching sound.

any ideas?

this may not be related, but I've had issues with the power locks not working, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. I did notice when i last started my car they engaged when i turned the key, but now they won't engage and the car won't start. fusses and relays are good.

Update:

battery and alternator is not the problem. it seems it's either no fuel or no spark. I'm so confused cause it was running, and now it's just sputtering when i try to start.

Okay so it might be your fuel pump. There is an easy way to check this, first get into the car and buckle the driver side seat belt (you don't need to be buckled into the car just the seat belt) Next turn the key to the run position not ACC, but the RUN( do not start the car). If your fuel pump is good and you are getting fuel you will here a small humming noise or sounds like something buzzing in your engine or the rear of the car....

If you want to check you spark plugs go and get a spark plug tester from an auto parts store and do what the directions tell you...

    HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!

short stop and pass driving in no way chases out the condensation from the interior if the motor and oil or cost the battery sufficiently and shortens the life of the brakes. Luke heat engines are a breading floor for gum, varnish and sludge deposits. The gas equipment is regulated with the aid of the on-board computer. It furnishes a richer gas mixture whilst the engine is chilly. A wealthy gas air mixture motives gas cylinder bore wash down previous the piston rings into the crankcase motor oil. whilst this happens the oil point mysteriously starts to upward thrust.

spark and power to fuel are easy.

spark testers are reasonably priced, pretty simple to use.

and you can put a circuit tester to the fuel pump.

if you have your doubts pull the pump, wire it up and see if it will run.

    seems easy to me.

Have an auto repair shop check your battery and your alternator.
