Real Estate Agent Etiquette? When to say "See ya?"?
Ok, that makes it sound bad. Here is the situation.
I have just started a relationship with one RE Agent, Agent A. So far he seems good, he has sent me quite a bit of info and has been very helpful and we are supposed to go look at houses on Wednesday together.
But, I am applying for a downpayment assistance program.I was told it was important for the RE Agent to be familiar with this program if I want to take full advantage of it. Agent A is not familiar with the program, and I am in contact with another agent, Agent B, who is very familiar with it.
I am trying to not be a jerk/unfair to anyone in this situation. I don't even know if I will get into the downpayment assistance program, so I may not need a different agent and would be happy to stick with Agent A. But, if I get in, I want Agent B, but I'll feel bad telling Agent A, "Sorry, I know you helped me out a lot and showed me all these houses, but now I am going to buy one of them through Agent B because she knows the program."
Seems kind of jerklike. Advice??

It is very nice of you to consider Agent A's feelings, but unless you signed a buyer representation agreement you are not obligated to this agent in any way. Just remember you are looking for your home, this should be a business relationship and nothing more. Choose who will do the best possible job for you, that is the best way to avoid future "buyers remorse". The only exception to this, is if Agent A shows you a property, does most of the leg work, and then after that you switch to Agent B, in which case Agent A can claim "procuring cause of sale". If you really want to change agents, I suggest you switch now before Agent A shows you any properties, if they are truly professional they will understand, and if they don't you didn't really want to work with them anyway.

There is no etiquette. You haven't promised the agent anything, yet.
However, be careful with the agent that says "he knows about that program". The agents know what they need to tell you and get you into the most expensive house, so they can get a fat commission.
Don't trust a "realtwhore"!
