Are there Republicans with a conscience?

It looks like the vitriol of the congressional Republicans doesn't mean a thing to several influential Republican governors. Read this article and tell me what you think.

Congrats on your contributor status. I sent congrats on an earlier answer and ran afoul of Yahoo nap time.

I'm not sure what you mean by conscience. Those governors are facing pretty tough times and do not accept the GOP line on the economy. Schwarzenegger wrote to Obama with his request. Crist appeared in FL to support Obama's plan. Ca and FL have some of the worst aspects of the mortgage crisis which means they have some of the biggest fraudulent lenders and some of the worst economic problems. They need to prosecute the crooks while they're taking in the money. To me party lines which neglect doing something to deal with problems is beyond my ken. Actually I think the conservative coalition which developed in reaction to the Vietnam war and the civil rights war of the 60s is dying. A new attitude seems to be developing. The "Silent Majority" is gradually experiencing the silence of the cemetery.

Some respondents here leave me puzzled like the NY TIMES is the only source of information about the governors. The bi-cameral Congress DID pass the bill...duh. I hope this intervention stops the economic decline and gives us a base to build a new future with some new consideration for our fellow citizens and our common good..

I would hardly call any of the governors mentioned in the article influential. At least from a Republican Party standpoint. As for their motives? Well that is easy. Each is facing budget shortfalls and cannot wait to get their hands on the aid to states included in the Obama plan. Fiscal responsibility has been eliminated for many in politics and rather than own their states failures they are looking to go on the dole. This has little to do with conscience it is about saving their own butts for the next election if possible. Several of the states listed are more liberal than conservative so it is no surprise when their governors act in a more liberal manner, This is precisely why they are not influential in the Republican Party.

is this purely an commercial for the e book? you have made accusations without specifics or data. It makes it somewhat no longer basic to describe to you why you're incorrect. Sacrificing the youngsters of the middle classification in an unwell-conceived conflict? There are infantrymen from all instructions that are engaging interior the conflict. The conflict became no longer a Republican concept. It became voted almost unanimous with the help of the two homes of Congress. lots of a similar Congressmen which at the instant are condemning the conflict and the President are those that voted on it. And inspite of the accusations that Bush lied, those Congressman all had a similar information that Bush had to make that selection.

Sorry but I only go to those sites that report facts and truth and the New York Times is not one of them!

Next you will be saying that the Huffingtonpost is a good site for facts or the one where most schools say that you can not use it as a source you know the site called wikepidia!

NY Times is a leftist rag that is about to file for bankruptcy. It is as good of a resource as the Huffington Post.

NYT is not a very good source of 'balanced' news reporting. It is nothing more than a Democrat editorial.

Nice slanted article you posted Sparky. Do you people want a bicameral system or a dictatorship? It seems like the latter to me.
