My older PC won't turn on, is it likely the power supply or that BIOS/RT Clock battery that is the problem?
No power lite on front, power confirmed at wall (mains) outlet. Pushing on/off or reset button doesn't do diddly. 1999 vintage clone desktop, had been working fine last week. Is is toast?
It was the power supply, checked the cord and the switch. New 250W ATX power supply is only $18+tax at Tigerdirect. Few minutes to replace and back in business. Thanks for suggestions!

If it was the bios battery, when the power button was pushed the internal fans would spin up and present bios error messages or beep codes.
It sounds like its the power supply, just make sure that the voltage selector is set to 115 (it could be stuck between the two settings), that the PS on off switch is set to ON and the power supply connectors are properly connected. You can get a new PS that exceeds your old clone's pretty cheap so if you really want to it won't cost too much. You could also find someone who also has and oldey and moldy box and borrow its working PS and see if it will run your computer.

Before jumping to the power supply I would check one more simple thing. Try swapping out the power cord. If it still doesn't work. I would go with the power supply or the power switch. You can test the power switch just by jumping the contacts on the back of the switch. Testing the power supply is a little more difficult. It's actually simpler to just replace the damn thing for $40.00
