Almost any of the Die Brucke artists used a lot of red -- Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmitz-Roloff
Paula Modersohn-Becker is also a good painter to look at when thinking about red.
Two entirely different modern artists who used a lot of primary colors were Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns (who is alive and still painting). Their work has an entirely different feel and if you are willing to give it a chance you will find it teaches you a lot about colors.
But so do Die Brucke.
