Baby Shower Gift Ideas?

My niece is having a baby shower this weekend. Baby number 2, another girl. Mom has clothes, blankets, bedding, left over from first baby. She needs bigger items: dresser, stroller & carseat, swing, pack n play, etc.

I have made a baby quilt to give her but I still feel that I should include something else, something store-bought, as I'm not really sure how mom will take to a "home-made" gift.

Money is a bit tighter these days, as I'm sure most of you can relate to, but I still want to take a thoughtful gift. $40ish or under is my price limit. Any suggestions?

i say that with the quilt is enough but if you feel better giving her something else try buying some baby johnsons gift pack in toysrus or babies rus burlington they are usually 20,30,40bucks

diapers -start with size 1 (NB may be too small for a chunky baby and only last a couple weeks) gifts card to Walmart or Target (generally a superstore) that have a baby motif printed on it, not a gift card from a specialty store like BabiesRUS - for one, there's only one store in my town (15 miles across town), and prices are expensive, even on sale (30% off of a $10 jumpsuit is still an expensive $7 one, I can easily buy for cheaper elsewhere), and third reason, if the parents have alrady stocked up on baby item and don't need anything , they can use the card for groceries. I am a very careful with my baby items budget as they grow so fast, and I always buy for next year (s) on sale/clearance at the end of the season. So, I REALLY appreciate when I get the receipt along with an item I don't need so I can return it.

First off, if someone gave me a hand made thing at my baby shower that would be my ultimate favorite gift, and I wouldn't expect anything else from them. My sister got a handmade quilt for her bridal shower and she literally cried...

But anyways, buy her some diapers, wipes and things like that that you know she will use.... maybe put them all in a clothes basket, the quilt, the diapers and the wipes, trust me the best thing you can get someone (other than something hand made) are diapers and things like that.

well, you could be different and buy something esp for mom

i highly recommend the 'swaddle me' wraps by kiddopotamus; they are wonderful to get a nb to sleep!--they are ten bucks

they also make a 'snuzzler' that is wonderful for the carseat when they are nb, i think they are about 20bucks

if she is formula feeding, buy her a 'dr. brown's formula pitcher'; it is less than twenty dollars and is marvelous!

not sure the price, but 'skip hop' brand diaper bags are great!!

a book called 'what to expect the first year', maybe fifteen bucks

u can get all the above at babies r us for sure

if she is registered at a store, you could always buy her a gift card to that store for forty and let her pick up things that she didn't get at her shower; believe me, that will be more appreciated than you realize..!

if u know her diaper preference, you could get her a couple small nb packs and a couple size ones....hth

There really is nothing wrong with a home-made gift. My aunt told me she's going to nit a little dress for my baby and I don't mind at all. You can go to Walmart. They have an awesome baby section with good quality stuff that isnt expensive at all.

wow homemade quilt i say that is enough! think of the time involved in it? I guess if you can i think diapers love the store brands and have neve had a problem with them the walmarts parents choice

  • Sorry no great ideas, but check out her registry. Make her something as you were and buy 2 boxes of diapers. Size 1 and size 2 . She will thank you for them later ;)

Go in on something bigger like the pack-n-play with one or two people. Bigger items are always a hit!! (Because they are so expensive!) Good luck!
