Question about habitat of yellow birch tree?

My tree guide tells me that the yellow birch is commonly mixed with beech, sugar maple, basswood, eastern hemlock, balsam fir, eastern white pine, white spruce and red spruce. Does this mean that a forest with yellow birch can contain all of these trees? Is it likely to? Or do some trees predominate? Many thanks for helping a beginner.

You will see that stepping into a native virgin forest, certain trees gain a certain roothold in certain places within the forest arena. This is a phenomunum that is yet to be explained.
