Pointe Shoe Troubles! HELP!!!?
i've been on pointe for a long time now and i guess you could say i really know what i'm looking for in a perfect shoe... but... i can't find it. so, i need help all you other bun-heads out there! i'm looking for a new shoe! i'm trying everything it seems like!
so here's what i want:
- square box (my toes are all the same length)
- high-ish wings of the box that come up sort of high but not too high
- good arch support (i have extremely high arches)
- narrow heel (i've got very very narrow heels)
- they have to last a while! (no Mirellas or other performance only die quickly shoes!)
- and might i mention i have very tiny feet (womens size 5 US) that are done growing... sadly
so... here's what i have tried and why they didn't work...
- Capezio Glise Pros, absolutely love the box, work for me great EXCEPT the darn heels NEVER stay on! not even for one half plie!
- Grishkos (i don't remember what model) too tapered, not enough support, but the heels had a higher cut that stayed on better!
- Freeds (Studio IIs) uhg! uhg! uhg! UHG! so painful! they felt awful everywhere and i didn't like a single thing about them... also it was hard to dance in them and i still have pain in my feet that wasn't there before i tried them... ahem....
well that's all that i tried in class (that i can remember) but i always try on every shoe in the store before i buy a pair! i have a very hard time because my feet are so small that most people don't cary my size! and my feet are so archey that i'll always have fabric left on the heel because as you go up on pointe, your arch sinks in a little and your foot "get's smaller"... you know what i'm talking about... so i need a high cut heel... arg! i've tried moving my elastics and ribbons all over the place and making them tighter and tighter until one pair i cut off the blood circulation (seriously!) and nothing helps! uh! please help!
whatever, just please tell me what you've tried and what you did and didn't like about it and what you suggest maybe? please, i need help! even my teacher is having a hard time coming up with the right suggestions!

i have the majority of the same problems, but what i had to end up doing was get them hand-made or custom built. where i live, this guy makes pointe shoes... but it costs you. mine cost about $800 but mine lasted about 2 years and didn't hurt my feet. i also wear these special hand made pads and they really helped... i think i bought them off the same guy.. but i don't remember, sorry.
(i haven't bought any in a few years after i snapped my achielles and broke the bone in the top of my foot, a career ending injury :( but good luck to you)

I would suggest Gaynor Mindens. You can specify all of the sizing options and they have shoes for people with narrow heels. If that's not enough, they have heel grippers you can put on the inside of your shoe. I have them now and they last about three to four months. I've tried other shoes but these are the best, plus they're the most comfortable!
