How does literature affect our society?

It helps for people to really get an in depth view of life in someone else's shoes. You get to almost live in another world while reading a book. A world that may be very foreign to you or even just a little off base. Whether it be fiction or non-fiction. Reading is on a much more personal level than watching a movie etc. After reading a book or other form of literature, a person carries something away from it upon which they bring to society. Whether it be a viewpoint, a felling, a new outlook and/or simply knowledge. Any time and every time we gain knowledge we mature for with knowledge is power. Knowledge is one of the few things that cannot ever be taken from you.

Literature helps to add culture to readers lives, which in turn has an effect on society. Have you read literature before? If you have, you should be able to answer this thoroughly. If you haven't, be honest with your assignment and say that you haven't had experience with literature and therefore don't have any insight.
