It could, by not having the proper "clamping load" on the bolts in the proper order. The gaskets could be cracked by too much load, or loose from not enough; both of which could cause a vacuum leak or warp the manifold. Plus, if the gaskets are cracked from too much load, there could be coolant leaking into the crankcase which will cause catastrophic engine damage.
I do at least one intake reseal a week at the dealer where I work, and see the results of improper repairs on a regular basis. The days of the "fix-it-myself" era are gone when it comes to the newer computer module controlled vehicles. It takes special training and special tools to do anything above an oil change anymore, and even the oil changes are going the way of the dinosaur.
