How do I start up a pet sitting/walking/grooming business?

I am a student right now in dog obedience/instructor. I live in fort campbell, ky. I have so far begun training my neighbors and friends dogs. I asked my professor how to get more hands on and he said to try to start a beginners obedience class or to walk, sit, or even try grooming. I would really like to do this but am unsure how to start. I am wondering if others would trust me with their pets too since I do have a little but not alot of experience. Can someone please give me some advice?

sophie has good idea. You can also do up a small flyer on your computer and have copies made cheaply .. then drop them door to door, particularly where you know the homes have pets. Dog walking is always good ... and try areas where elderly live as they can often use a hand. On the flip side, look for large expensive homes where professionals will live as their time may be taxed and they could use a hand walking, or caring for their pets. Good luck!

There are many ways to find your clients. You could build a website and map it for you local area. Using local suburbs in your keywords plus the "Dog Sitting" "Dog Walking" etc keywords. Place Ads in your local newpaper. Do Letter box drops (which I don't recommend highly). Put Ads in Shop Windows Especially Pet Shop Supplies (Highly recommend) & Dog Groomers. This is a great niche the potentials are endless. We have doggy cafes where I live attached to local parks - You can take your dog to the park to socialize with other dogs and have breakfast or lunch. There is also a doggy menu. People will drop and pick up if you have a Doggy Daycare facility. You would also need to look at your local council regulations and maybe get a licence or Register. Every Animal would have to be up to date with their immunization and you would need insurance - This could be a very lucrative business depending on how much effort you are prepared to put into it. If your still at school and just wanting to make a few extra dollars then I suggest speaking to people walking their dogs or just put an ad up at the local petshops etc. Good luck business can be as small or as big as you like ...

If you go to care.com you can type in your city and see if anyone is looking for these services. You can also make a profile of what you do and put a picture up.
