Trunk locked with car keys inside....any ideas?

Okay, I admit my thinking is not real clear and I have to rethink things a lot. Have short term memory loss. So, locked up the car, was about to get my groceries out, but had to go get a cart. Decided I didn't want to carry my heavy purse to the cart so put it in the trunk. I was thinking I had my keys in my pocket. Well, I did have keys in my pocket but they were my door keys (apartment & mail box keys), and stupidly slammed the trunk shut and then right away realized what I had done. Both my sets of car keys were in my purse and no way to open the trunk.

Got AA (road service) but my card is lost and last time they had to open a door they sent a drug addict who didn't know what he was doing and it took him ages to get it opened. Just don't know what to do. It's midnight here. Called my son an hour ago, but no answer---they had gone to bed. My other son lives 2 hrs. away. So, any suggestions? I sure would appreciate a good idea. The police in this area no longer open car doors---we have too much crime, so they are too busy.

Happened to me..I slammed th trunk closed, just as I noticed the keys on the inside edge....I could have kicked myself.

it only took about 1/2 an hour by the time he got there, made a copy from the trunk lock, and got my keys out.

I felt really dumb though, and it cost me 40 bucks (that was a few years ago) but the relief to have my car back was immeasurable.

Call a car dealer with your key code or VIN # they can make you a key but you will need proof of ownership. If you bought the car from that dealer it should be easy enough, then you will have a spare for the next time you lock yourself out, sounds like it is a habit anyways. If your car has a trunk release inside the car and you didn't lock all the doors just use the inside release. If you don't have a manual or power release you can try to fold down the rear seat if equipped that way or just remove the back of the rear seat. Don't put both sets of keys in the same place in the future. and find yourself a warm and safe place to sleep.

So, given the fact your asking this question on a computer, I assume you are at home, or you didn't lock your computer in the trunk.

You could always google for locksmiths in your area, that way you can pick out your own.

Do you have the keys to the doors of the car? If so, do you have a trunk button inside your glove box, or somewhere else. Many newer model cars do.

Since you have AAA, the fastest thing to do would be to call them. The chances of getting another drug addict is pretty slim.

If your stuck outside and your phone is in the purse in the trunk, use the computer you used to write this question and google lock smiths with AAA endorsement. Use a pay phone or a neighbors phone or store phone and give them a call. I'm sure they would be happy to come get your purse out, and then you can call AAA and get all the particulars taken care of. Good luck

I just read your posting. Boy, there sure are some mean and rude people on here.

Don't feel bad, Marj. When I used to deliver the newspapers, I locked my keys in the car once while it was running! I had a loose lock, must've shut the door too hard and down it went! Plus it was 5 am so I couldn't knock on anyone's door for help. I had to walk a couple of miles to my house and get my spare set. I'll say a prayer for you.

But as for you, by now, you are probably out of your dilemma. But if you aren't, I think if you call AAA, and you have paid for the year, they will still come and help you even if you lost your card. They must have these things on record. The chances of you getting a drug addict again are slim. They are a very reputable company.

Trunks are hard to get into, AAA if you are a member can pick the lock or a locksmith. some times the police can do it also.

Call a locksmith. It might cost you an arm and a leg, but it's worth it for something as important as car keys.
