Wow, I really have to disagree that Groundhog Day was "obviously" Bill Murray's best movie. I feel that it was good, but not great.
Lost in Translation and Stripes were good.
What about Bob?, Caddyshack and Scrooged were really good
My personal favorite roles of his would probably be as Bunny Breckinridge in Ed Wood or Steve Zissou in The Life Aquatic. Both roles show he can do a great job at parts other than the "funny smartass" roles he seemed to play all the time in the 80s.
EDIT: Bill Murray was not in "Curly Sue". You must be thinking of James Belushi, nelita.

He is amazing in Groundhog day, but I dont think that is his best movie.
Scrooged I think is his best movie ever, "Scrooged" is a cinematic gem, one of the most outstanding films of the '80s or any time for that matter. Bill Murray is at his comedic best, and he is entirely convincing as a bitter network exec who has lost sight of the important things in his life, like family and friends. Supporting actors all do wonders with their roles, but Bill Murray made this movie spectacular. This film will make you laugh, thanks to bill murray.

Rushmore - It was his finest droll performance. Murray delivered a layered performance, reveling in Blume's mercilessness while still managing to convey more serious and conflicted feelings. Critics proclaimed “Rushmore” the best work of his career, stoking hype for an Oscar nod that never came. He did win Critics Circle Awards in New York and Los Angeles, establishing himself as a serious actor worthy of greater consideration.

Caddy Shack He causes this Rich No-it-all Lady to faint when he takes a big chomp out of the Baby Ruth, and he totally destroys the Golf Course giving the win to one of the Caddies

Lost in Translation. It proves that he is not just about the comedy but can easily slip into a lot of serious movies making him one of the most versatile people out there.

Very hard to choose, he is so good in all his movies...but if I have to choose just one...then I'm going with: Curly Sue
He plays a con man who ends up raising a little girl that was left to him by (I believe a prostitute) that dies. The movie is sad in parts and funny in parts, very entertaining!!!

Although he was not the main character, I think his performance in "Ed Wood" was very different from any of his other films, and quite good.
