    Well... It's complicated. It's completely different depending on what organism you're talking about. Different critters have different metabolisms. Some synthesize nucleic acids, amino acids and lipids and some have to get them from their diet but a lot of the time it's a combination of both.

    There are specific enzymes in cells or sets of enzymes that for example convert one type of lipid to another or create longer fatty acid chains. There are other types that convert one type of amino acid to another.

    If an amino acid is said to be "essential" then it's something you have to get from your diet. There's some good info on the wikipedia page.

    This is a silly question. Animals trough food they eat (plants other animals) and water they drink like you do and plant get water from roots get some nutrients from soil trough roots too and obtain their food (sugars) by photosynthesis. When the green chlorophyll in leaves trap light of sun or any light and turn it into sugar from which the plant feeds.

    Well these are just guesses, but plants get them from absorbing it through their roots, leaves, or any other part of them and animals get it by eating it I guess.
