Recovering lost File on Microsoft Word 2007?

Ok,

So I was writing this letter on my desktop but I decided to save it and send it to myself on my email so that I could finish typing it on my laptop. Finally I was done and I clicked the X button on my microsoft word and a window popped up. It said "Do you want to save the changes to [name of file] file?" The options were yes, no, or cancel. I clicked yes and the program was exited. Now, I am trying to look for it

but i can't find it now. I've tried the searches but still nothing came up.

Please help!

open up the program go to recent, then try and find it.

if that doesnt work, go check the trash because that sometimes happens.

check the desktop and everything too to make sure it didnt save somewhere else...

did you check in your temporary folder? Most of the time email attachments get saved to a temporary folder and named "OLK<something>" (nothing like the original file name). Also, did you try to open it back up from the email? try that, see if the finished document is what opens, then do a "save as" to give it the correct name and put it somewhere you can find it.

If you email yourself a file, the first thing you should do is open and save it outside of the email environment so it is actually on your hard drive. It will be in a temporary internet file with a ridiculously long name made up of numbers etc.
