You can download View NX for free off the Nikon USA site Its the software that came with your camera

    here is the link

Then if you want JPEGs all the time change the camera for both JPEG fine AND large file size This is done in the shooting menu the one that looks like a camera icon. Be sure to press OK after you make your selections to lock them in

Sorry but I did not take the time to read your hole explanation because right off the bat I knew you are a novice/inexperienced. 30 people is not a small group, inside or outside, I did not notice that you stated lens in use at the time...on camera flash ? NO WAY. Lens required for group shot must be a wide angle because if you use a standard lens you'll end up at the back of the Church. The wide angle will allow you just to step back a few pews and get everyone in the frame. As for the flash you'll need to get your self a Professional off camera flash with a minimum GN# 150 and try a second flash with a radio slave. Because I won't be there on your second job I can't help you out but I'd say pick up a Digital Wedding Photography book ... It will help with all of your questions on lighting and lens choices and group arangment/posing etc.

As mention, NEF is Nikon's RAW format.

I've been able to view most RAW formats with Picasa (link below) and then export them to a JPG file from there.

You need to convert the Raw file to Jpeg, there is no program on a computer by default that can do that, you will need to install some.

The software that came with the camera can convert from Raw (NEF) to Jpeg. It may not be as good or as comprehensive as Photoshop, but it will do the job.

Rawtherapee is software that you can download for free which will work too.

Your camera should have an 'Image Quality' setting where you can set the image to one of several formats. Very likely it is currently set to NEF (RAW). Just select JPG instead.
