you get points on yahoo answers by answering question. for every question you answer you get 2 points. more info here: http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system;_y...
the more points you have, you will gain levels. for each level, you can do more stuff, like answer more questions, rate other people's answers, give stars, and vote for best answer. (there will be more info on the website above)

when you have more points you can get to higher levels. the 'my profile' button will tell you about that. You can do different things in every level, like on level two you can pick thumbs up and thumbs down questions.
