How can I make the volume control on the keyboard of my HP G60 laptop work?

Every time I change the volume I have to use the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Normally there should be preinstalled HP drivers for that purpose but if it doesnt seem to work then I found Microsoft's Intellitype Pro (which is free) seemed to do the job. It even flashes up a wee volume guage which disappears after a few seconds, unlike the annoying bar in the bottom right which needs you to click elsewhere to be rid of it :P

Its a fairly standardised technology and should work with just about any keyboard. In the install selecting multimedia keyboard normally does the job but select which ever is most appropriate. After its installed you can even customise the key settings and choose to have a volume bar appear or to have it completely in the background.

I just checked the HP site, using the (blue) fn AND volume up, down or mute is the standard way to adjust the volume on yours and most every HP laptop. You should also check the sounds settings via the control panel. Start, Control Panel, Sound and/or HD Audio Control Panel. Check the settings to make sure the speakers are turned on, nothing is muted, etc.

    Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager

and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot

and you should get the message "new device found" see

if windows can install it from the windows files.

If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.
