How to get the sound I'm looking for on electric guitar?

I would call myself an intermediate guitar player. What kind of guitar pedal would you recommend to get that heavier sound like Breaking Benjamin has? Or just that generic heavier rock sound like in Nickelbacks "Animals"? I like all kinds of music but I'm really looking for that heavy type rock riff sound. appreciate it!

I would definitely recommend a boss pedal. Any size would give you the true amount of distortion needed for those type of songs. Also, I recommend tuning your guitar down a whole step. This will make the sound of your guitar much heavier and fitted for the genre of music. If I were you, I would tune down to D, because C is reallly low and meant for death metal unless thats what you would prefer. I hope this helped, message me for further information if needed.

I personaly like the Boss metal zone. Its got a 3 band eq and give alot of head room for distortion tones. for a "intermediate" guitar player. I wouldn't remomend a floor processor or pod. Boss Stomp boxes are very simple and have pro-sumer sound quality.

I have a Boss GT-8 guitar effects processor. There's hundreds of different sounds like Breaking Benj. It's kinda high dollar. But man is it worth it. Or you could buy the Boss Metal Core footswitch. It's magical.

try getting that, setting you bass up on the amp (gives you a crunch) mid kinda low, and treble to you liking... somewhere between middle and all theway up.

make sure the amp is clean.

mess around with the pedal untill you like.

tune down to drop d or d standard

(nobody is using drop c or c standard or lower for that music)

A lot of times heavy songs like that are played in drop D or similar tunings. They also use heavy bass.

A standard overdrive pedal would work, and try tuning your guitar down. :)

im in a metal band and what we do is take a drop c tuning and combine it with black coffee and it will sound just like the breaking benjamin guitar if you set up the black coffee right

check this out. this is a trick i learned you get a pack of strings for a seven string and you use all but the smallest string and tune it to B or any other tuning and it will make it more of a crunch sound. listen to the song way of the fist by five finger death punch. and you will know what im talking about.

Boss Distortion. I think it's called DS-1 or something, but it's either yellow or orange.

it's really in their tunings, I think a lot of those songs are in C...which requires either heavier strings or a seven string guitar.

Source(s): Plays in a band, we try to do some of those songs but they're too low for my guitarist's guitar
