What should i do if my laptop battery only lasts 15 minutes?

I know there is obviously something wring with it cause it only lasts 15 minutes when not connected to power. My laptop heats up very quickly and shuts down all of a sudden when it gets too hot. Is this because of the battery as well,m what do you suggest i do?

if the battery only last 15m it could very well be the battery .. depending on what type of battery, it could be bad, or worse .. if it's Ni-Cd (old, 1st laptop batteries) for example, DO NOT use this battery as overheating could cause VERY CORROSIVE chemicals to seep out and damage the machine and/or your skin .. if it's Ni-Mh then it could cause similar problems as Ni-Cd batteries, but potentially less harmful or fatal results could occur .. if it's a Li-Ion (most newer laptops are) than it is less harmful, but still could present issues .. any battery is potentially dangerous but newer batteries are designed to be LESS dangerous than there predecesors

basically, whaetver it is, take it to the nearest recycling center (try an auto parts store that recycles car batteries) and purchase a new one .. if it's under warranty send it straight back and request a new one be shipped to you ..

batteries are dangerous when they malfunction .. they could easily explode or catch fire with little to no warnings .. you could e playing your fav. game of solitaire and all of a sudden find yourself attacked by a laptop fireball!!! ..

better safe than sorry, discard it and buy a fresh one ..

it's probably doing a safety shut down because the battery is causing the interior circuity (ie - RAM, CPU, etc.) to not cool efficiently, causing your processor to go into safety shut down mode and turn off to save the laptop from being damaged ..

also .. pull the battery, plug it into an outlet and see if it still has the same results .. just to make sure it is ONLY the battery that is damaged and in need of replacement

    hope this helps!

you could buy a cooling fan for your laptop, the one that you put under you laptop. New battery would help it. Get more ram, so that your cpu wont get as hot. Try to get better parts for your laptop so that it would increase the performance of your laptop and this would cool things down.

also use only applications that you need to use, dont open 5 different files and live them on while you are trying yo watch youtube or listen 2 music. in other words do one thing at a time.

    i hope i helped.

Buy a new battery. The battery can get hot but is not always the cause. The fan that cools the motherboard may have failed. You should be able to hear if the fan ever goes on. If it does not then you either need to get that fixed or buy a new laptop.
