    Pool filter sand is Diatomatious Earth - fossilized skelletons of diatoms.

    Play sand is tiny particles of decomposed rock and/or shells.

    pool filter sand is diatomite a result of diatom shells forming a deposit

    that can be mined. regular sand is the result of erosion of rocks
