The USGA will not implement the rule for top level amateur tournaments until after Jan. 1, 2014. If your set was made prior to 2010, the clubs will be legal for any other amateur tournament thru 2024. Colleges are members of the NCAA and they have their own conditions but they do play according to the USGA rules. So, it looks as if college golf will fall under the "top level" amateur status. You're good until Jan. 1st, 2014.

The answer below is right on. In college, you will be able to play clubs with "U" or "box" grooves until 2014 - unless they change last year's ruling. The good news for you is that the AP2's (which I currently play) have V grooves and will be legal even after the rules change. They are great clubs and will be for a long time.
The rules change will mostly affect wedges, so if you are planning on playing mini tours after college, you might want to get used to a 64-degree wedge. Without the U grooves, a lot of spin is going to be tough and you will need more loft.
