The standard example used in almost all textbooks on the subject is as follows:
In England there is a type of moth that hides by staying still on the trunks of trees in the forest. These trunks were light colored, so the light moths survived more often, because the birds that eat them cannot see light colored moths on light tree trunks. The dark colored moths were eaten more frequently, so the ratio was many moths with the light gene to few moths with dark genes.
However, when the Industrial Revolution happened, all of the pollution/soot from it coated the tree trunks making them darker. When this happened, the birds could see the light colored moths better, and the dark moths could hide better. This led to more light moths being eaten. Over a few generations, the ratio of dark moth gene rose to many, and the light moth gene plummeted to few.
This change in frequency of alleles (the different forms of a gene: in this story the alleles were light coloring and dark coloring) over time is microevolution.

Microevolution is any microscopic evolution. Every year there is a new Flu Shot out. Why? Because the flu virus has EVOLVED to be immune to the previous shot. And they need a new shot.
Bacteria and viruses and all kinds of microscopic things evolve frequently and much more quickly (due to their small, simple structures). This is microevolution. Many who doubt the existance of evolution still believe in microevlotion because it is easily observable.

not sure but i think the theory of gene survival could be thought of as micro: rather than the struggle for survival for the individual, it is the struggle for the survival of the gene.
Thus, if i have children, my genes will survive for generations eventhough humans will not be here forever...however, my genes will outlive ME because my children, my grandchildren, and so on will carry those genes
not exactly sure but you could ask your proffessor
