Why is Biggie Smalls called the king considered the greatest?
I am trying to diss or insult biggie smalls if you think this what i am doing. I like his music and i think he is good but i dont understand why people think he is so great. i love hip hop and lsiten to a lot of it. he is good but if you take Dr. Dre and 2pac for example, they had hit after hit after hit. they have made so much more music then biggie. 2pac had a lot of albums and Biggie only had 2 albums. REMEMBER I AM NOT DISSING OR INSULTING Biggie Smalls becuase i like him but his music and albums werent as big or popular then a lot of other rappers that are good. why do a lot of people think of biggie as the king and greatest.

greatest because hip hop was born in NY -therefore more hip hop heads and pioneers will stand by him, more like a homage to what he could have been.
Really I think it was that jay, puff and the lox came out with the greatest first before pacs people thought about saying it. The whole King of New York thing translated into greatest so......
I think the weight had something to do with it, to be able to sustain concerts and all - also junior mafia was better than outlaws.
My eyes, big was better than pac, greatest? perhaps lyrically

Biggie smalls is da illest
His discography of 2 official albums are better than people with 4 or 5 albums. 15 years later, and Ready to Die is still an untouchable album. And people quote his lyrics everyday.

Because he is the King of New York and since New York is where Hip-Hop Started and where the best emcee's are at.
I can understand you not thinking he's #1 Personally I think he was the Greatest and I got a few facts to support my opinon But it varies how you look at Hip-Hop.
But 2pac Biggie and Eazy-E do bother me in 1 way they get WAYYY too much regonition idc how good each one I mean the other dead emcee's deserve more respect.
I mean ask the Average Hip-Hop Fan the Day Big L Died.
Then Ask em what day 2pac Died.

he only has two albums from ten years ago and he is still one of the most quoted rappers ever. he only has like 40 or so actuall songs (including freestyles ands stuff), but people use his verses so much over so many different beats. its just hot. how can you say dr. dre and 2pac made hit after hit in an argument against biggie. every verse he had was hot, as was every song. seriously, big poppa, dead wrong, everyday struggle, f*ck you tonight, gimmie the look, goin back to cali, hypnotized, i got a story to tell, i love the dough, juicy, just playing (dreams), machine gun funk, n*ggas bleed, notorious thugz, one more chance, slam, suicidal thoughts, ten crack commandments, the sky is the limit, the wickedest, unbelieveable, warning, whats beef, who shot ya. just to name a few...every one of those songs is hot. sorry, but he is the greatest of all time

Album sales are irrelevant to a rappers skill. Biggie was really that good of a rapper, and lyrically, he was better than 2Pac. 2Pac probably sold more albums because he was easier to understand than Biggie, and he showed more emotion in his songs. I agree that Biggie wasn't the greatest, but he was great.

Wow, I could write an essay on why Biggie shouldn't be considered the greatest rapper ever, but trying to argue this on the basis that he wasn't popular enough or didn't make enough hits is probably the most retarded thing you could have said.
He was one of, if not THE most popular rapper in the world during his short career. I don't believe that necessarily means greatness, but you're completely wrong with your information.

quality is much better than quantity. biggie could rhyme of the top of his head, had sick flow, and hot beats. also every song on ready to die and life after death is pretty much crazy.
