DVD recorder that allows you to watch one thing, but record something different?

Is there a dvd recorder out there that enables you to record one thing but watch another? I just bought a recorder but I can't record one channel while watching another. I'm not interested in anything that costs money like Tivo or purchasing a dvr from my cable service.

    Most DVR's have that ability. Who is your cable/satellite provider?

    You need a DVD recorder with TWO tuners. I don't think you will have much luck finding one.
