is it ok for my quaker parrot to drink ice tea?

my quaker always begs for food when we are eating, and always give him some of what we are eating (except chocolate) but my quaker now has an addiction to drinking my arizona ice tea... he had some coca-cola as well, but he loves ice tea... since i haven't read anywhere about this I was curious as to if this could be harmful to him... I would hate to take this away from him since he loves it so much....

Update:

i did try to give him a "sip" of some water that I had in my glass earlier, and when he realized that it was water and not ice tea he lost interest in it.. it wasn't what he wanted...

this bird is spoiled... he loves pasta, but will spit out the caned stuff (chef-boy-r-dee)

The Caffeine in tea, coffe or chocolate acts as a poison to an extent, and th emore he has the worse it is in a days time.Because he is bigger,he would have to have kind of a lot,but better safe than sorry! He will only eat what you allow,so perhaps some natural juice(no sugar or corn syrup) or veggie juice when around him with the ice cubes that you pretend to drink is better, because your germs and your bird arent a healthy mix.I often pretend to eat or drink something I dont want or like to get my birds to eat it,saying umm when I do so!Anything natural is better and healthier for your bird, btw, canned stuff is too salty, and can be dangerous as well.

I agree with the other posters.

The vast majority (I would easily say 100%) of the colorants/additives/sweeteners in our beverages have not been tested on birds. The reason for them not being tested on birds during development is that a bird's physiology (inner workings) is very different than a humans, and therefore does not make a good testing model for evaluating the safety. Due to complex pharmacological reasons, something that is extremely safe in humans can easily be life-threatening for a different species, even a tiny amount. Even if not immediately dangerous, it's not a given that's it's therefore safe. Some toxins can build up over time, so one is unaware of the damage it is causing until it is too late. Think of a balloon; keeps getting bigger until it can't handle it anymore and it just goes 'pop'.

I think you should substitute to solve the problem, rather than cutting it out completely and leaving him feeling deprived. Give a treat instead of the iced tea, and over time your parrot will forget about ever having it in the first place.

Caffeine and sugars found in things like your Arizona tea is bad for your bird. Also, no dairy products (milk or ice cream)

His addiction to your food is more likely interest in your attention and affection.

Do not give him carbonated beverages any more. High fructose corn syrup and the acids are bad.

When you are enjoying your drink offer him some water or maybe some unfiltered apple juice or orange juice Maybe a favorite treat.

    Don't overdo the juices though.

Birds love to enjoy a treat with their people. (My sun conure loves to eat a peanut while I'm holding him. He gets a treat and my undivided attention)
