Who has had or has IRS problems?

I see a lot of IRS help companies advertise, and I was wondering how common IRS problems are and what experiences people have had with these companies in terms of costs and results.

Their track records are abysmal. Less than 20% of all Offers in Compromise are ever accepted by the IRS. The fees that they charge are outrageous. Their advertising claims border on outright fraud.

only a small percentage of the population actually gets a "love letter" from the IRS. The process of the audit is very time consuming because in some cases it could drag on up to 2 years. But, IRS is now experimenting with what they call a Fast Track Program.. in Arbitration or Mediation. The time frame now for resolution is up to 60 days.

Considering a CPA/EA/Tax Lawyer typically charges about 50-400/hour the cost for the taxpayer is high during an audit. They will need to research the client's tax return and will have to come up with a reasonable cause so IRS will waive the penalty.

I have 1099 C forms coming to me, and I'm hoping that they won't pose an IRS problem.
