Are we as Americans finally ready to acknowledge our culpability?

in the death and destruction caused by our demand for and prohibition on certain narcotics?

The black market that results from our appetite is astoundingly nimble... from the mid '90s coca cultivation shift from Peru and Bolivia into Colombia, to the Medellin cartel, to the Cali cartel, to FARC and the AUC, to rise of gangs in Mexico.

You know what I think. What do you think?

Update:

EDIT: what are you talking about? Provisions in Plan Colombia directed that funds and material not go towards fighting the (at that time) civil war. Yeah right. Through the AUC's military network they were able to obtain these. It was obvious and anyone watching knew that we were funding both sides conflict... in the case of the AUC on both ends, through taxpayer funding of Plan Colombia and through users, abusers and addicts, whose demand created revenue through trafficking and through the taxation of coca growers.

On this, your assessment is simply wrong.

Well the US is not totally to be blamed for the consumption of cocaine since more than half is consumed in Africa and Europe as they have less strict drug laws than the US. Cocaine use continues to rise in Europe since smuggling across the atlantic is easier and more profitable for Colombian drug runners.

I think most Americans are still buying the guff they started handing out in 1954. And that the DEA is so entrenched that they will never allow us to shut them down. I think America didn't learn anything from Prohibition, so they will deny all culpability for the problems created by the anti-drug laws.

Only the drug addicts have culpability in this matter. Execute them, and there's no more demand.

I think we have enough morons in the USA.
