If meat makes me sick but I can eat some seafood, what kinds of seafood are safe?
I never used to like meat and when I went to college I stopped eating it. When I tried to eat it again it made me sick. The only meat I've been able to eat is shelfish.
Are there other kinds of seafood that are safe for vegetarians by default like me?
It's as if I'm allergic to meat. I can't even stomach chicken broth, whether I know it's in there or not so I know it's not psychosomatic.
I've heard a rumor that vegetarians who get sick when they eat meat can eat certain kinds of fish. I tried it out on shellfish and I was ok!
What I'm trying to figure out is what other kinds of seafood would probably be safe for someone who gets meat-sick.
I have a friend who said it's easier to digest the fish with a lot of white meat, but I don't know which ones would be white meat.

NONE !!! many people have died from eating "toxic" seafood and having allergic reactions that tells you it's no good for your body.Seafood critters are the roaches of the sea they'll eat anything including corpses thrown overboard and we will go to RED LOBSTER and have a seafood feast. Think about it, do a little research

Because fish has a very short shelf life and must be sold immediately. Most of the fresh seafood was caught only a few days before hand and hasn't been handled too much to be contaminated. On the other hand chicken coops and slaughter houses are breeding grounds for parasites etc.

Fish with high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids are good for you. However, when you eat fish, you do have to be concerned about the heavy metals you ingest. Even though people laughed that Jeremy Plevin ate so much sushi that he had to quit a broadway show because he had mercury poisoning, the fact is that too much fish can impact your health. Women of child-bearing years are advised not to eat tuna more than once a month, for this reason. Heavy metals collect in your body from consumption of fish and seafood.
I think the pacific salmon that is wild is good for you-better than the farm raised. Look for deep sea fish that are not farm raised and high in omega fatty acids.

what kind of seafood won't make you sick? cooked seafood!
maybe you should become a pescetarian (for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pescetarianism ) like me and enjoy flounder, tilapia, shrimp, haddock, squid, lobster, scallops, little neck clams, artic sur clams, salmon, cod, halibut, crab, oysters, etc.
You'll just have to try a bit of the above to see what suits you.
I'm a pescetarian as I like the idea and everything that entails to being a vegetarian, but cannot commit as much. it is still much better than being a non veg. it is much better than eating mammalian meat which contributes to a variety of problems around the world ( http://style.uk.msn.com/wellbeing/healthyeating/ar... ).
also, many people are right about not eating fish often as they can contain high levels of mercury (see http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/fish/advice/ for more info). 2 times a week is okay
why does everyone have a thumbs down?

All seafood is safe in moderation, but vegetarians don't eat fish, nor seafood.

Vegetarians don't eat animals, but you probably know that already. Fish, crustaceans and mollusks are animals. So, you're not a vegetarian.
But that aside, if you are going to eat water-animals, don't eat puffer fish (blowfish or fugu) as it's like playing Russian roulette (or in this case Japanese roulette).
Source(s): Real vegetarian. The thumbs-down are no-doubt because a lot of pescatarians don't like being told that they are not vegetarians. The truth is often unpopular, but in this case it has to be told. - Mr. GrummpLv 71 decade ago
Any seafood, handled, stored and cooked properly is safe to eat. Whether you like it or not is a different issue.
