Will a back tattoo mean i can't get an epidural if i have a baby?
I have heard that if i get a tattoo on my lower back it would mean doctors couldn't give me an epidural if i was having a baby. Is this true? Not having a baby any time soon, but don't want to rule that option out.

No true. I have 4 tattoos on my back, 3 on the lower and got 2 epidurals for both my kids. I've heard that they won't poke the needle directly in the tattoo itself. That could cause ink to get into your spinal fluid. As long as there is blank skin somewhere on your lower back, you are fine.

It isn't true. You can look up some research on PubMed that shows there's nothing to indicate that there would be any problems, and many women have gotten epidurals through tattoos that covered their lower back. The ink will not go through the skin and into the spinal column.

I can't imagine that would be true, but when in doubt, ask the experts. No I don't mean the other people here on YA, but go see an ob-gyn. I am sure it is not the strangest question they have ever heard, and in fact they would probably admire your thinking ahead just as I do.

I would not think so! But like the first answerer said, the answer of a gynecologist would be the best answer. I would not trust anyone's answer on here for a question as serious as this.

I can't think of why. if the tatoo's fresh it'll hurt to lay on it while giving birth, but ohter than that it's just ink being held in skin.

I really don't know, you should probably ask your doctor when and if you become pregnant.
