  • Non-rising gingerbread recipe?

I've been looking everywhere for a gingerbread recipe that doesn't puff up much when baking, so the imprint comes out clear when I use a cookie stamp. Can anybody suggest a recipe? Can I just take the baking soda/powder out of my favorite gingerbread recipe, or will that leave me with ginger-flavored crackers? To give an idea, I'm using these: http://static.neatoshop.com/images/product/42/7742...

  • How to talk to an estranged father?

My father has always been distant, and I stopped talking to him after I moved out. Getting married gave me a new perspective of staying connected with family, and I'd like to build a relationship with him. All I know is that he likes skiing, war history, and has a sarcastic sense of humor. Do I just go straight into "what did you want to be when you grew up" questions? I got nothin'.

  • Wedding vow: anything to improve?

We're having a Doctor Who themed wedding in about a month. Do you have any suggestions to improve my vow?

I didn’t know what to expect when I posted the personals ad, but I couldn’t have dreamed to meet such a kind, generous, intelligent, handsome, creative, and funny man. From our second date on, I couldn’t imagine a future without you in it...in fact, I was already willing to follow you to Seattle if I needed to. I love that you can immediately give a Wikipedia page worth on anything about comics, LOTR, or DnD. I love that you can fall asleep in 2 minutes flat, even when trying to win a bet (somebody’s got to counter balance my uptightedness). I love that you’ve been there when I needed you most, and know how to “break me” into giggles. I have never felt so comfortable and safe in the company of another person. You join in on my weirdness and recognize my obscure movie quotes.

If I believed in soulmates, I would say you are mine. Instead, I hope that you’re OK with hearing that you’ve made me believe that very few times in your life, if you’re lucky, you might meet someone who’s perfect for you. Neither of us are perfect, but our combined flaws are arranged in such a way that allow us to fit together.

And so, I vow to always be there, and to make your problems my own. I vow to apologize when I am wrong, and to forgive you when we misunderstand. I vow to never forget the giddiness of having found you, and to never take our love for granted. Tonight, I vow to forever travel the universe as your companion.

  • Doctor Who episodes where he says to run?

Can anybody list episides and approximate times where the Doctor tells someone to run? I know he says 'Nice you meet you, Rose. Run for your life!" in episode 1 of the new series, but I can't think of any others.

  • If I change my legal name before marrying, what's my maiden name?

My name is Victoria Daly, but I haven't gone by Victoria (or any variation) for 16 years. I thought I could change my whole name when I got married, but apparently the marriage certificate only allows the last name to be changed. To save some confusion and headaches, I went ahead and legally changed my name to Kathryn Robinson, taking my fiance's last name ahead of schedule. When asked for my maiden name, would I put Daly because it's my birth name, or Robinson because it was my legal last name before marriage?

  • Which should I change my name to?

I've gone by Kat for half my life (I'm 28), so I figured it's time to legally change my first name to reflect the name I go by. I was planning on Kat, rather than my full middle name of Kathryn, because I figured I could reduce spelling confusion when giving my name. Someone pointed out that some people get confused when you have a "nickname" as a legal name, and also that Kathryn would be better for resumes. Do you think that would outweigh the benefits of having an easier to spell name?

By the way, sorry for the weird category choice. There isn't really any section for legal name changes.

  • I'm changing my name. How does Kat Inara Robinson sound?

I've been going by Kat for the last 15 years and Inara is my favorite character from my favorite TV show, Firefly. I definitely want to have Kat as my first name, but I'm open to suggestions for my middle name. Any (serious) ideas?

  • Home Installers: are you allowed to accept food/beverages?

Whenever a plumber, installation tech, etc. is at my house, I offer some lemonade, snacks, or whatever. Invariably, they always turn it down. I was just wondering if most companies discourage accepting food and beverages, if they just get offered so often that they weren't hungry/thirsty, or something else?

  • Recommendations for a 50cc scooter?

Does anybody have recommendations for a model or brand that's reliable? My main criteria are 40+ mph (with governor clipped), under $2k new or used, and sporty-looking...so no Honda Metros. I've heard Taiwanese brands are generally reliable, so it would be awesome if you even just have a list of Taiwanese scooter manufacturers.

  • Why would a call center forbid personal reading between calls?

This is the first time that a call center has made this demand of its employees, and it makes absolutely no sense to me. Are they worried we'll try reading while on calls? If so, why not punish people caught doing so? I'm reading on a Kindle, so people can't even tell what I'm reading, even if it was inappropriate. I'm trying to build a case to try to talk some sense into my supervisor, and am actually trying to understand their POV so I can combat it. Thanks!

  • Can I sue the car seller to meet me for notarization?

I bought a car with an Arizona title and was told at the DMV that it's one of the 5 states that require notarization. Nobody will notarize it without the seller being present, and he's being uncooperative about meeting me. I finally got him to plan on meeting me today and he stood me up. So my question is: is there a court order or something to force him to meet me to get the title notarized? I did have both sellers (he and his wife) sign a Bill of Sale along with me, so at least i have proof (besides the signatures on the back of the title) that money was exchanged.

  • How much should I charge for a Wii and accessories?

I have a Wii console (used once), 2 Wii-motes, 2 nun-chucks, 1 motion plus attachment, 2 light saber attachments (NIB), a Sports Kit (NIB), and Gold's Gym Cardio Workout. Does $150 sound fair? Or should I go closer to $100?

  • Threads overlap cloth on serger?

After fiddling with my Brother 1034D serger for a few hours, I still can't get the edge of the threads to match the edge of the cloth. There's about 1/4" of interlocking loops extending past the cloth. Would adjusting the width of the stitches help? I think it would be described as inconsistent trimming since it sometimes matches. Any help at all?

  • Questions to ask my boyfriend's parents?

I'm going to meet my boyfriend's parents after the new year and I was trying to think of questions to ask them that will lead to embarrassing stories. The best I've come up with is 1) What were his career aspirations and 2) How early on did he start showing his independent streak? We've been together a year and a half and I think he's "the one;" I just want to get as much "dirt" as he got from my family. : )

  • How much for a '99 Saturn SW2 parts car?

Everything but the engine is in good condition. It is completely undriveable, so KBB isn't helping much. If the KBB value is $1,600 for "fair." can I hope to get $1,000 for it?

  • Fair price for my beater car?

It's a 1989 Ford Probe. The highest it looks like I could expect to get is $1,650 but that's without issues. It's at something like 100,500 miles, the rear left brake light doesn't light up (something electrical), the brakes just started squeaking, the AC takes 30 minutes to kick in, the radio doesn't always turn on, the driver's side window is missing the handle, there's something jammed in the driver's door lock, there are a couple cracks in the windshield, it needs a new air intake hose, and there's cosmetic damage in the front and hood including the left headlight not going up all the way. In my defense, only the brake light, cosmetic damage, and squeaky brakes happened while I had it for the last year. Anyway, is $500 too much? Too little?

  • Would my insurance company probably total my car?

I got backed into and it did $695 worth of damage (according to Maaco). If the NADA value is $1,188, would the insurance company probably just total the car? And I'm going with the lowest possible price listed since the fuel gauge doesn't work, the driver's side door lock has something jammed in it, and just generally it's a poo-heap.

  • Free software for editing and converting audio files?

I'm trying to clip just the song from an iTunes podcast, so I'm looking for something that I can at least try before buying. It would also be nice if I can do some basics like fade at the beginning or end of files, converting them to different types (wma vs mp3, etc) and combining 2 or more clips. I have Power Audio Cutter but it's really limited.

  • Is there a free autofill program designed for job applications?

Autofill Browser and other programs I've tried don't include past job information. Even retaining information like the company name and wage would be helpful.
