I have Lupus, and my husband has Strep Throat?
Our doctor wants us both to take amoxycillin, even though I don't have any symptoms.
He says it's because I have a compromised immune system and feels it best take the RX to prevent me from getting Strep.
Someone just told me that I can't be on antibiotics because it will put me in a flair.
Before I call my doctor, I was wondering if anybody else has heard the same?

Actually prophylactic antibiotics are a common practice in the treatment of Lupus. This will not harm you in the least and sounds like an exceptional idea. Rather than question your doctors judgment and look for answers on line, I would suggest trusting his advice and his years spent in medical school. I know it is frustrating to a doctor to constantly have his opinion questioned because of 'I heard it on the internet' nonsense.
Additionally, in the UK there have been some studies done on using antibiotics to actually treat Lupus. They have been inconclusive so far but they definitely haven't caused any harm, much less a flare.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease so your body is attacking yourself. This would not cause antibiotics to put you in a flair so its ok to take them.
