Does anyone know of a good cheap hotel, like a pensione in Paris. We will be there for 4 days in early May.?
We would prefer to use public transport rather than Taxi. Also, at what time do the queues start to form at the Louvre and Eiffel Tower, I have heard that they can be quite long. Are there any "quieter days" we could try?

The hotel I most commonly stay at and which I have been using for over 30 years is Hotel St. Andre des Arts at 66 rue St. Andre des Arts in the 6th arrondissment. http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75006...
It is undoubtedly as good a location as you can find in a very lively neighborhood just a few minutes walk from dozens of famous tourist sights including Notre Dame, the Musee Cluny, the Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens, the Louvre, and Sainte Chapelle.
Its inexpensive. A double with ensuite WC and shower is 91 euros which includes breakfast and all taxes.
I love the place and at breakfast one soon discovers that many of the guests are repeat customers who have, like me, been there many times before. Its a favorite of visiting academics, airline crew and fashion models.
On the other hand, I have no doubt that many people find the place utterly horrible. There is no elevator. No cable TV or, indeed, any TV. No minibars, no ice machines in the hallway, no WiFi and no room service. The furniture is a weird collection of bits and pieces collected by the owner over the years. Breakfast consists of a choice of cafe au lait, hot chocolate or tea with baguettes, butter and jam set out in big baskets. No buffet or cereal bar, no yoghurt or granola.
But you can cross the street and have a drink at Le Mazet where Jim Morrison had his last drink in public At one end of the street is Allard, a famous old brasserie. At the other end is the Cafe Conti, a wonderful and friendly place to have a casual meal or a glass of wine. On that same block is a street market that's been functioning since medieval times. Around the corner is the Cafe Procope, the oldest cafe in Paris that was a favorite of Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin during their days in Paris. Voltaire and Moliere were also habitués along with the King's Musketeers who frequented this neighborhood.
You will find that Pris has the finest public transportation system in the world and no address within the city of Paris is more than 600 meters from a metro station or bus stop.
The Hotel St. Andre, for example, is one block from the Odeon metro stop and half a dozen bus stops are within 3 blocks.
