I'm not in Australia, so I won't give you brand names, but most major commercial horse feeds have a foal starter ration. It might be called foal starter, or mare and foal, something like that. Ask you vet for his recommendation, and check at your local feed store. One thing you need to watch is the calcium to phosphorus ratio. It should be approximately 2:1. If it is much different from that, you risk getting joint problems as the colt grows.

I fed my youthful horse attitude, that's an somewhat reliable feed and the pelleted feed is far less annoying to digest, IMO. If he's a weanling nonetheless i might feed him Mare and Foal. the situation with feeding a weanling any style of feed is that except you have different horses on the comparable feed it is going to ruin long before you could feed an entire 50 pound bag. I also have a mini donkey and he gets approx an 8 oz..cup packed with feed 2X an afternoon yet basically through fact the horses have become fed and that i in basic terms won't be able to go away him out. A mini would not want very plenty centred feed in any respect. I guess he's lovable as something nonetheless.

Go to your local feed store and see what they have. Most people who work at feed stores are educated by reps of the food companies they carry. They will have a foal starter feed. Any changes in diet should be done gradually, even at weaning, make sure you offer some grain before you fully wean.
