I throw a FIREBALL, a COUNTER SPELL gets played, and I play FORK. What is the resolution

I throw a FIREBALL, Followed by a FORK, and then a COUNTERSPELL gets played. What is the resolution?

    1. Assuming you Fork the Fireball, one Fireball resolves, while the other in countered. So one gets through. You could also Fork the Counterspell, but the result would be the same.

    2. If your oppponent is smart, they can counter the Fireball and fizzle the Fork with one counterspell. This is how it works:

    You play the Fireball, putting it on the stack.

    You play Fork targeting the Fireball.

    Before Fork resolves, your opponent targets the Fireball with a counterspell. The Fireball is gone.

    Fork is countered by lack of target (or 'fizzled') because Fireball is no longer on the stack.

    That way, neither Fireball nor Fork would get through.

    1st: Fireball is countered

    2nd: Whichever spell he wants to counter.
