Your poodle needs frequent grooming and removal of facial hair. They need to use at least a 10 blade but a 15 is my favorite (but the skin has to get use to it first by using a 10). Then you can combine cornstarch, maalox and peroxide to form a paste and apply at night (this may however cause some diarrhea and be careful to not get it in the eyes) or get a product to add to food called Angel Eyes try petedge.com or revival animal health for this product. This requires several weeks treatment and time for the old stain to grow off. You might also have you vet check the dog for entropian this may also be causing eye irritation This is caused by the eyelid rolling inward and the lashes rubbing the eye surface, can be surgically fixed.

To wash it you can just use a wash cloth with warm water but to keep it from getting so bad there are things you can use. My mom uses Angel Eyes for her maltese and the results are amazing - it is a powder that you put in the dog food. She buys it from the groomer but you can probably get it at any pet store. Good luck!

This might not be a good answer but I give you a thumbs up for asking because my Chow Shepard [I'm not sure how to spell it] But I usually do clean her eyes about everyday with a wet paper towel. And it might just be her sleep but I console my dog and tell her to stop crying. It sometimes help.

damp a cloth and gently wipe them off...If you wait too long they will dry and become to hard to get off without soap
