As with improving any part of the body, you need to exercise it to improve it.

The more you consciously practice using your memory, the better you will become at remembering things without even trying.

Search for memory exercises on Google or look for one of Dominic O'Briens books on Amazon.

Get enough sleep (8 hours adults, 9 hours teens, 9 to 10 hours adolescents)

get some exercise most days, at least 1/2 hour

get good quality sleep - if dogs are barking in the night, or a nearby airport keeps you up, play soft music all night to block out the sound. If you suspect a sleep disorder, then google sleep hygeine and sleep disorders & get more info on this.

Don't multitask. Research proves our brains handle one thing at a time best. If we do 2 things at once, we don't perform very well.

Pay attention. Many times, we don't form a memory to begin with.

Use flash cards and crib sheets if you are in school.

If you are in school, write formulae, names, dates, etc on the inside front cover of your exam booklet as soon as you get it, if you are worried you will forget those things under pressure, or have a poor memory.

When you meet someone new, use their name a couple times while you talk to them, to get it into your head. Form an association, like if you meet someone named michael, think of michael phelps and olympic swimming. This can help a lot. I still have trouble, becuase I have bipolar disorder & that messes up memory, so as soon as I get away, I write their name down. Or, ask for a business card. In a sit down meeting, write their names down right away on your notepad. Study and memorize the name later & remind yourself a few times until you have it down cold.
