Is there a safe alternative to rawhides?
I have a giant mastiff that swallows 10" long Rawhide bones whole after unraveling them. He loves to chew on things and seems bored when he can't. Any alternatives out there? I prefer something he can chew on inside that won't mess up the carpet.
Anyone ever tried deer antlers?

Stay away from the Rawhide bones. They can clog him up.
Natural, raw bones. Bully sticks. Stay away from pressed chewies such as greenies.
I like the smoked bones, but they do leave crumbs on the floor when chewing. The dogs will try to get them out of the carpet. I am assuming a Mastiff could do quite a lot of damage to a carpet trying to get the crumbs up. I usually let my dogs have the smoked ones on the linoleum or in their crates.
some of they things I use, pig ears, ect might be too small for your dog. You need something that is large and sturdy enough for him to chew and not break off large chunks. I have heard of naturally shed deer antlers that are supposed to be really good, but I have not used them.

Nyla Bones come in all kinds of sizes and flavors. Also, there are chews made for APBTs you can find on the internet. Look for dog toys that are strong and hard. Also, if you know anyone who hunts, deer and moose antlers are very healthy, don't splinter and are almost impossible to destroy. They are also clean.
Rawhides are not good.
Add: Dama, Mastiffs drool.

I would not be giving any rawhide chews (which usually come from China), pigs ears (which have caused blockages), any cooked/smoked bones (which often carry harmful bacteria, especially in hot weather), or nylon bones (can chew or scrape bits off and would not want my dog swallowing nylon)
- give your dog a raw beef leg bone or knuckle bone, it's totally natural.

Also, Nylabone makes "Big Chews" that are much larger than even the souper sized Nylabones. They have ones shaped like beef bones and turkey legs that my lab really likes, and she can't break off big chunks of it. Little bits will flake off, but that's fine. Were you getting Nylabone puppy bones or flexible ones by mistake perhaps? The durabones are pretty hard, and the bigger the size, the harder it will be for your dog to get off big pieces. My dog likes the many flavors of the Nylabone Durable Bones, Souper sized, the souper sized Nylabone Durachew Plus and the Nylabone Big Chew turkey leg and beef bone. Those are the most indistructible ones I've used but have heard great things about the Nylabone Galileo Bone as a previous answerer mentioned, as well.

Yes, CET chews, they dissolve instead of possibly causing blockages in his throat or intestines, they don't stain, and they have an enzyme that cuts down on tartar build up on his teeth.
I give them to my 6 dogs daily, much safer than rawhide or greenies - and a lot neater too.
Rawhide is usually processed in some third world country and harbors bacteria. One of my dogs got very sick on one and my vet told me that even U.S. rawhide is shipped overseas for processing and can cause bacterial infections.
You can get them online, do a search. Vets carry them too, but way more expensive there.

Natural Bones. They are great for the teeth and dogs L-O-V-E them x 2948329468! If you have a butcher in your area see if you can get the bones of of him/her. If not, ask your friends, etc. to save the bones from meats they get. Moose season SAVE THE BONES! I feed natural bones to my dogs all the time and they like them way better than the store bought stuff.
P.S- Rawhide's are made with anti-freeze! Don't feed them to your dog. Can get stuck in the intestines then you know what happens next....

Smoked beef bones. The smoking process keeps it from messing up the carpet. Cow hooves & ears are great too.

Raw, meaty bones. I get large soup bones from the grocery store.
Bully sticks.
