what would happen if small dog mated with big dog?

All dogs are the same species, regardless of breed or size, and can therefore produce offspring together. Big dogs mate with small dogs all the time - this is usually easier if the female is the small one, but it has been known for large females to lie down so that small males can mount them. Where there is too great a size difference - say, a Great Dane and a Chihuahua - the pair are physically unable to mate, but if you artificially inseminated the female, she would still become pregnant. This would be risky, however, if the female was the smaller of the two - the puppies would probably be too big for her body, meaning death during or even before birth. Depending on how well-developed they were, a Caesarian section might be possible to save both their lives. Indeed, selective breeding has produced some breeds that have been modified to such extremes by the whims of humans that they are unable to give birth naturally, due to such things as large, rounded skulls in the puppies and small birth canals in the mothers - the Japanese Chin is an example.

Small dogs and big dogs can mate. If the small dog if the female the mating process and pregnancy may be hazardous to her health because the puppies could grow too large for her to carry and kill her.

Chihuahua's and irish wolf hounds can reproduce but would need help i.e artifiical insemination, as physically mating would be impossible. If the chihuahua was the mom then its likely either the babies or the mom would survive pregnancy. The babies would simply grow to big whilst still inside her. When two breeds mate it is difficult to predetermine the characteristics of the offspring but they are generally inbetween the parents in size.

It depends on which one is the mother if the small one was the mum it is very probable that she would die during birth if she had more the 2 or 3.If the bigger one was the mum then she would likly pass the babies with no pain or discomfort.
