Animal Kingdom under the Earth's Crust?

I am taking an Astronomy class and the Instructor said that an animal kingdom about 30 miles under the Earths crust has been found, however he could not remember the particulars. Does anyone know of this kingdom and have more information. I'm not having much luck!

Bacteria have been found in the deepest drill-holes, and I suspect that this is what he referred to. They were nowhere near 30 miles deep though; the record is still the Kola superdeep hole at 7.62 miles.

Some bacteria have been assigned to the animal kingdom, but I think Archeae are more likely at those temperatures.
