Why do some honda civics have "foam" cd players?

I'm looking into buying a 2001 honda civic ex. I noticed the area where you put the cd is of a foamish material. Is this just a problem with this specific car, or are all of this years model like this?

    foam insulation is used in autos and is also used to absorb the shock and help steady the CD player

    this isnt a problem, its just there to keep dust out.
