Why is Degrassi, Degrassi: The Next Generation?

It's the generation that comes after the first generation? The first Degrassi had Spike, who became a teen mom. Then the next generation has her daughter in high school.

Because the original Degrassi was filmed in the 80s and 90s so the "next generation" is simply the newer version of Degrassi having children and the kids go to Degrassi and face new problems from this day and age.

Thier was an original Degrassi in the 1980's. The character Spike was an original Degrassi character as a teen and her daughter Emma stars in The Next Generation as a teen.

its called the next generation becasue degrassi is a show that used to be on for a long time and if u watch the old degrassi episodes some of the teachers are students but now in the new degrassi the old students rae now teachers and theirs new ppl playing the part of the kids and so they are the next generation

There use to be a show in the like 80's or so Degrassi, it was like Emma's mom and step dad thus the reason for the nick names- Get it? Next Generation as in their daughters and so forth

TNG refers to the next generation of kids, most of which were born in the mid to late 80's and early 90s, some of which who are related to the original characters of the 80's Degrassi.
