Getting license 1 year after DUI?
Ok, I got a DUI (alcohol) nearly a year ago. Of course, I lost my license, paid $2000+ (not counting whatever SR-22 adds). Had probation. Did my community service. I actually finished everything in 3 months (paid everything, passed my drug test, did 60 hours of community service).
My question is, does anyone know what I have to do when this year is up to get my license back? I haven't driven, had a license, or had insurance since then. I've taken my DUI school course, too, btw. When this one year is over for having my license suspended, will I be able to walk into the DMV and get a license like normal?
BTW, I know about the restricted license. I never did get one, I just want to know that when my 'time is up' (actually like 3 months), will I be able to get a license like normal, again. Thanks.
Thanks for the responses. About the SR-22. What happens if I quit having SR-22. Does it go on record and make me automatically lose my license again? The economy is bad here, I'm looking for a job, and what would happen if I couldn't hold my SR-22 for 5 years straight?

Reinstatement fee
SR-22 insurance
Must take the written test for your drivers license
Must take the driving test as well
Depending on your state you also may be required to provide proof that you have completed a level 1 or 2 alcohol program.
This should be all that is required of you
Edit:
You can get SR-22 insurance on line that is pretty inexpensive.
If you let the insurance lapse the cheap insurance that you got will be canceled and then they will notify your state in which case they will issue a suspension of your drivers license.

It sounds like you are pretty much ready to get your license back minus the sr-22 filing. When you do decide to get it reinstated you need to make sure that the sr22 filing is always on file with the dmv. If the filing cancels for ANY reason the insurance company will file an sr26 the dmv will automatically re-suspend your license, you will have to purchase a new policy and paty the reinstatement fees of $55 If you switch insurance policies just make sure that the new company files the sr22 for you.

If you already had a license before, then yes you can just go back and get it back but you'll have to pay a reenstatement fee which varies by state (it's $125 here in CA) But when you go there, explain that you just want from reenstate your license after a DUI, they'll already know that you've completed everything because it's in the computer but bring any documents you can just in case. You'll pay and you'll be okay. But get the SR22 first!!! You have to do that before you get it back or they won't give it to you.

In my state, you'd have to get an SR-22 from your insurance company to present to DMV, and pay a reinstatement fee. Call your local DMV, and they'd be happy to tell you all you need.

I'm not sure what would happen if you stopped carrying SR-22. You should probably consult with a lawyer. When I had a legal question, I used quicklegalanswer.com. It was fast and cheap. It helped me with my legal issue, I’m sure someone over there can help you with yours. Anywho, best of luck!! Let me know if I can be of more help!!
