Why is the smell of cigars (not smoke) different from that of cigarettes?

Aren't they both made of tobacco?

Incorrect answer about aging in liquor

Both are made of tobaccos, but different types.

Cigarettes are domestic leaf, chopped filler with additives (like addtional nicotine). They are rolled in bleached paper with a fiberglass filter and smoked strictly as a nicotine delivery system

Cigars are rolled with different blends of tobacco and are smoked for flavor and aroma.

Cigars are whole leaf tobacco cured and aged (usually in some type of liquor) Cigarettes have a different type of tobacco + a lot of filler componets and chemicals added.
