How long after moving in do you have to hold a house warming party?
We were just wondering if we moved in April, if a July cookout type thing would be too late to be considered a house warming.
Maybe I wasn't being specific enough? By housewarming party I meant inviting our friends and family over to see our house, not letting strangers in off the street and making them give us gifts....and any invitations sent out would be worded to indicate that we aren't expecting anyone to bring us anything...but thanks anyway.

i like the assumption of having the two. individually, i think of it relies upon on how in-touch you intend to stay. in case you're making plans on staying as in-touch as attainable, then a house warming occasion surely. yet another thought is a mid-way get-mutually. once you progression, hit upon a city approximately 0.5-way between the hot place and the previous place that has some exciting stuff, like a action picture tutor or skating rink, and have anybody meet there. That way, that's a happy solid-bye form of occasion, yet in addition has ability for destiny get-togethers, when you consider that's closer than your new residing house. (My sister and her college friends had a cafe that they liked to fulfill at in the process the summer season that replaced into approximately an hour to 40-5 minutes remote from all their properties, and it worked notably plenty for them. Her truly close friends and he or she might meet perhaps as quickly as each week or so which you'll be able to desire to devour and spot a action picture.)

It's tacky as sin to throw yourself your own housewarming party. You're better off calling it an "Open House", this way people don't feel obligated to show up and give you a gift. Asking for gifts for yourself is tacky...generally people don't give their own birthday parties...get my drift?

I would not invite strangers into my house , house warming partys are no longer in vogue, and merely invite theft.
or people may think your trying to show off- not good

That depends:) If you're doing alot of renovating and/or decorating, you'd certainly want to wait until you're done. So, I'd say that up to a year should be fine. People shouldn't expect you to throw a party until you're settled in your new home......

Until you've unpacked your stereo for music, kitchenwares to hold the food, and have enough chairs for people to sit on... ;-)
