Right now in the cup series its Jeff Gordon!

Right now, I can only see two people who could claim the title of best driver in Nascar, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. 3 Cups in a row(are there any other active drivers with 3 cups?) and 4 total cups are numbers that are very hard to argue with.

Make no mistake, Kyle is one of my favorite drivers, and the only Hendrick Driver I like is Martin. But Kyle has to win at least one championship before he can be mentioned as the best. He is most likely one of the most talented drivers in Nascar at this point in time. He seems to be gaining a lot of maturity and a lot better attitude.

Did someone say he "needs to back off and let someone else win".......why in the heck would any driver want to "let" someone else win?

Compared to what? Carl Edwards had an impressive year last yet also but he still has no championship in the Cup series and neither does Kyle. Kyle is driving with a team that has had several championships with Tony Stewart so they were a proven team to begin with. Kyle did not do bad at all when he went to Joe Gibbs. His success in other series can be attributed to the advantage that Toyota has had in the engine departments. The new design engines allow for the engines to run cooler which in turn allows the teams to put more tape on the nose of the car therefore creating more down force which translates to a better handling car. If all teams have the same advantage then Kyle's results might not be as impressive. Kyle is a very good driver and you can't take that from him but to say he or anybody is the best is probably a bit premature. He has had one very good season under the circumstances I mentioned but as teams catch up then the results may not be as impressive. Kyle and Carl has both had an impressive year but that's in the COT which is still a learning process for teams and NASCAR in general. If you compare their results to the old cars then there are drivers who's results may prove them to be better than Carl or Kyle.

And what about Jimmie Johnson who won the championship? Where does he fit into this equation?

It's amazing, how many people, now like Rowdy with his success, in the Camping World, Nation Wide as well as The Nextel Circuts of NSACAR.

Yes, Kyle is a very talented driver. He learned his skills while at Hendrick, under two multi champions; Jeff Gordon, and Jimmy Johnson.

Once Kyle puts some championships under his belt, then I would defiantly say that he is one of the best drivers out there.

He has matured a great deal since last season. If you recall, his interview after he was knocked out of Daytona, he was very ticked off, but didn't really shoot his mouth off. You could tell, he was biting his tongue, but just stated, it was a product of racing that got him knocked out of the race, and a race he had a great shot at winning.

Right now, hes showing that he is a great driver and in a couple of years if he breaks more records and win championships he would be the best driver in nascar but right now hes not yet :)

No, Don't get me wrong he's good but is far from being the best. He's on a roll again this year so far. We will see at the end of the season. As I and others have said he's just a little to Immature now, but I am hoping he will learn that nobody owes him anything and grow into himself as a man. But he does seem to like being the bad guy, I'll give him that.

Shrub is an amazing driver- don't get me wrong.

However, he doesn't have the Top 10 Consistancy. I think that Jimmie Johnson at the moment is the best driver in NSC, maybe Smoke, but he is still getting used to the new team, so it's all how you look at it.

I think he is the most daring driver, not the best. He has very limited self-control on the track, and that is why I don't like him. He's too much of a danger to the other competitors. If he learns a little give and take, he might earn some more respect, instead of just taking everything. That, to me, is not racing. That's greed.

But, it's just one opinion, which, like noses, everyone has one.

I don't think he is right now, however, I think he will be in a few years. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

why else would he be able to move from truck to nationwide to cup races and be able to dominate so well?
