It's a journey, so the characters have to go somewhere. So think about where you would like to go - is there somewhere special you would like to visit, that you would have to save up for years to be able to afford? Is there some place you have been to, that you can describe, or some place that you wish you could go, that you have read up on, that your characters can go? What kind of trips do you like to take - going to foreign countries, or some huge landmark, or just to a quiet spot of natural beauty? Or maybe your favorite kind of trip is to visit family or friends who live not so nearby.

If you won a round trip ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go? Think about that. Think about why it fascinates you so much. Think about how you might be changed by going there. Think about the process of travel - the inconveniences of airports and train stations, the discomforts of being stuck in a car for hours. Most of the time, tales of journeys are not just of the physical travel, but of the mental or spiritual journey that accompanies the physical movement. What kind of changes happen to you when you visit your relatives? What kind of changes would you have to make to survive in another country where you didn't speak the language? Those are the things you can think about for what will happen to your characters, and what they will think about it.

Or make it really simple - how about talking about walking to the store. It is a journey, and walking is a good way to clear the mind for introspection. You could make a story about someone who changes their mind about their life being good or bad while they walk somewhere in their own neighborhood.

Well first you have to have an idea, a form of writing (or voice), and a lot to go on. If you read alot, you can probably find out which type of voice you like to read, and chances are you will write with a similar style. If you have a certain idea about one section in your head, just write that part, and go from there. This will help you build your story. Writing a book takes a long time, and getting published is very difficult. Don't think you are going to be done anytime soon. Just practice writing and start anywhere you have an idea. Good luck!

The tradition of the Hero's Journey has been a popular form of narrative since Ancient Greece. The plots follow a strict formula, which makes them easy to adapt and the classical form of narrative allows for clear organization and understanding.
