  • How do I treat red blotches on my face?

Recently (within the last month or so) I've seen these red blotches on my cheeks. They are not blemishes or pimples, but rather red spots, some of which are a little bit raised. I thought this might be an allergic reaction, so I didn't wear make-up and just washed my face with warm water for about a week, but the splotches didn't go away. As I mentioned, the largest splotches are mostly on my cheeks, but I do have some minor discoloration going up to my forehead. My nose, neck, and everything else on my body is normal.

Let me know what you think: is this an allergic reaction, or not? If not, what do you think it is? What kind of treatment would you recommend?

If it's useful, I have fair skin that tends to be on the dry side. I use Purpose facial cleanser (recommended by a dermo years ago when I had adolescent acne) and I normally exfoliate with Saint Ive's apricot scrub, but I stopped that when I noticed the blotches. I moisturize every day with an Olay daily moisturizer (with SPF) and at night with Ponds night cream.

Also, the blotches started appearing after I returned home to California from a trip to Germany. There was no change in my skin care regime before, during, or after this trip.

  • I didn't buy a vignette when I traveled to Prague, will I be ticketed and if so, when?

I am currently working in Germany and a few of my friends and I decided to go to Prague for the weekend spur-of-the-moment a few weeks ago. None of us did any prior research to check about the toll system. I didn't buy a vignette, and my rental car (German) did not have one already on the windshield. I assume that somewhere along the D8 I was probably photographed. When can I expect a ticket and how much will it be?

  • In what section of "Gender Trouble" does Butler discuss gender performativity?

It's been a while since I read "Gender Trouble" and I cannot remember when Butler discusses gender performativity, i.e. the actual term. Rather than page numbers, a section header would be helpful! If page numbers are all you can give I am working with a 1990 Routledge copy.

  • Does Haruhi Fujioka use onnarashii or otokorashii speech or something else?

Another obscure linguistic question about Ouran High School Host Club: does Haruhi use onnarashii (feminine) or otokorashii (masculine) styles of speech? Thank you!!!

  • What pronoun does Haruhi Fujioka use?

Hi all! I am writing a term paper on gender-flexibility in Ouran High School Host Club. I wanted to know if people with Japanese-language skills could clear up a few things for me:

At the beginning of the manga, before Tamaki discovers Haruhi is a girl, what pronoun does she use?

Throughout the majority of the series, what pronoun does she use?

If you have read the entire series, at what point does she revert back to a female pronoun (and which one is it, watashi?)?

    THANK YOU!

  • Why does my brand new Sims 3 game have a facial glitch?

I just bought a brand new copy of the Sims 3 and there is a serious glitch with the sims' faces and parts of their bodies in the sims character build mode--their faces are stretched out and distorted. I have Windows 7 and an AMD Radeon Graphics Card which I already set to factory defaults. What more can I do!?

  • A tattooed college professor in Japan?

I am going to be finished with graduate school in about two years and wanted to apply to work at some international schools (K-12) and international universities in Japan. I know that tattoos are generally considered taboo in Japan and I am afraid that having a visible tattoo will make finding and keeping a job difficult. I already have a cherry blossom on my foot (which is not visible when I wear shoes) but I am planning on getting another tattoo on my wrist. I used to live in Japan, so I am aware of the social stigma--would this also exist at an international school/university?

  • What are some vegetarian dishes that are common in Southern China (Guangzhou)?

I am an ovo(eggs)-lacto(milk) vegetarian moving to China. I read online that there are some Buddhist restaurants in China that serve vegetarian food, but are there other common foods I can find at regular restaurants that are vegetarian? Tofu dishes would be best, I imagine. Romanized names and names in Chinese characters would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I get from Guangzhou to Hong Kong via train?

I am moving to Guangzhou this summer for a temporary work placement. I would really like to visit Hong Kong while I am there and wanted to know if there was a train I could take. I'm working and living near the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center. Also, if anyone knows any websites that can help with using trains in China I would greatly appreciate that information!

  • are there shinkansen weekend passes/discount passes?

I really want to spend more time in the Kanto region this summer, but I cannot stand taking the JR night buses (unless I get on an all women's bus...but still it is SUCH a long journey!).

I would really like to take the Shinkansen, but I cannot afford the regular fare--do they have any discounts? I know in Europe sometimes they have weekend specials for two consecutive days of travel--is there such a thing for the Shinkansen? I am also a college student--can I get any discounts for that?

    Specifically I am thinking of Tokyo-Kyoto, Tokyo-Nara, and Tokyo-Hiroshima.

  • Are there any discounts for travel within Belgium during the winter/springtime?

Over the summer there was a 50% discount on rail tickets within Belgium. I'll be returning to Brussels from March-May and am wondering if there are usually any special kinds of discounts for travel during those months.

Any additional advice for inexpensively traveling within Belgium on trains would be greatly appreciated.

  • How often are domestic airline stewards away from home?

My friend is contemplating getting a job for an airline, possibly as a stewardess, but she is worried about being away from home too often. She has pets and would like to be home every night. Do stewards for domestic airlines have regular work days?

  • which is better: a TESOL certification or a CELTA certification?

I am trying to decide if it would be better to take an online course from TESOL (value: $1000) or an international course from CELTA (value $3000). I would like to go with the cheaper option, but which certification is more prestigious/more widely accepted?

  • is the curry at Coco's Ichibanya vegetarian?

Last time I was in a Coco's you didn't get to choose what kind of sauce (at least, that's what I remember), but now, according to the menu on the website, you have to choose between beef or pork! Has it always been a meat-based sauce? I am so confused!

Additionally, does anyone know where one can get vegetarian Japanese curry in Tokyo?
